Your 3rd full length, ‘A New Day’ is released this week through Victory Records, could you tell us about the meaning behind the album title and artwork?
This record has an overall theme to it, just sort of the idea of putting the past behind us. So often we find ourselves getting caught up in what should have been, could have been, etc. There are things in life you can’t control. It’s about living and learning and becoming a stronger individual because of these experiences. Live right now and appreciate it, keep close the ones you love and forget about the people who did you wrong because ultimately they don’t matter.
What was working alongside with Matt Goldman (Underoath, The Chariot) like, and the overall recording process this time round?
Matt is amazing. Such a great guy and producer. We have worked with him a lot in the past and this time around we wanted to work with someone who we would be comfortable with. A friend and a great music mind.
Are there any tracks on the album that you particularly love?
This is a pretty personal record, a lot of these songs hit home. But my favorite songs would have to be “Daymaker” and “My Surrender”
There have been a few major line up changes this past year… has this affected Four Letter Lie in any way?
A band is like being married to 5 different people. It’s all about trust and chemistry. Sometimes in life things don’t always go the way you plan. It has been a positive effect on us only because the people who are not in our band anymore didn’t want to be here. So all the negativity is gone. We are more like a family now.
Where do you want to see ‘A New Day’ take the band over the next year? Are there any goals or ambitions you’d like to fulfil touring wise?
Well we obviously want it to take us to another world, but we’ll see. We’re going to continue to do what we have always done, touring non stop, promoting and connecting with our fans and hopefully some nice things happen.
Who/what inspired you to join a band and make music when growing up?
My older brother was in a band when I was younger. That is kind of how I got into music, going to shows, etc. Just seeing him play shows, the atmosphere, and being around it. It was like a high for me. I was pulled into it. So I was like hey I want to make a band too and that’s how it got started!
Halloween is just around the corner, got your outfit ready?
Haha, I actually just was at a Halloween store today. I don’t know what to be! I saw a Gumby costume that looked pretty hilarious! Remember Gumby? What a guy. But hopefully I can find me a nice, cute girl to hang out with for the night!
Keeping on the “creepy” theme… any weird things ever happened/been given to you on tour?
Two of our guys got arrested once, pretty much in Mexico. Like put in a prison. It was rough. We had to go on an intense rescue mission to bust them out!
Who are your top 5 new bands that you think Ruled By Rock readers should defiantly be listening to?
new bands? hmm…. well I will throw out 5 things I can never get enough of
NSync greatest hits
My American Heart

Any final words to people reading?
